Have You Tried Doing Nothing?
Our quest to make a mark on this world leaves us hustling between multiple objectives, wanting to accomplish them all. But, clearly, by spending our lives anxiously lusting after the future, we are missing to recognize the beauty of the present moment. Also, our constant wrestle with the problems with consciously planned solutions is leading us nowhere. Maybe it’s high time we let the unconscious thought process take over to get in tune with our inner selves and emotional needs. So, should we drop everything and sit idle? Wouldn’t ‘doing nothing’ make us good for nothing? This book challenges the stigma and very perception of what it means to ‘do nothing’. It will introduce you to the versatility of this phrase which we often synonymize with time-wasting. Here’s your ticket to the journey towards your own self, simply by doing nothing.

When I picked up this book I wondered whether the suggestion to do nothing was something I needed to hear. My first thought of a book titled 'Have You Tried Doing Nothing?' was, well, what for? I commend the author for making the assumption that I've never fully tried to do nothing in the way she describes in the book. It's a prescription that nails an underlying, simmering, and universal need for a world in overdrive. So before turning the first page of this book, I had already learned something valuable. We are now well past the entry point of a modern lifestyle where achieving more, creating endless to-do lists, being ever increasingly productive in our endeavours at work, with kids, finances and community, that we can all take a moment to accept that every human being is practically drowning in self-concern. The answer to what for then becomes unanimously, well because I need it. Because we all need it, and you too.
From this acceptance comes all the gold and wisdom this fantastic author brings throughout these pages. It's an easy read, non-burdensome, with plenty of nuggets of insight you will likely carry with you for years and decades to come. In an action-based world, doing nothing may seem an absurdity, however it's the rare human being who takes a moment to stop on a dime, assess their state, emotions, past, present and future, before reigniting the drive to live their life to the fullest - and this time with full intention.
This book is ultimately about deliberate living. Sometimes we need to stop before we can do, and Henna Malik is the perfect voice of logic, reason and inspiration for this message.
"An eye-opening experience" The book tells you how doing nothing could be the answer to all our life quests and worries. The writing is relatable and the author peels 'nothing' layer by layer to show how versatile the activity could be when done correctly.
Of course, I have tried doing nothing. Our definitions of nothing might be different. Nothing is a possible conception to creativity.
This is a culturally philosophical mind jogging book. Everyone, generationally and globally can relate to some aspect of this book. Enjoy reading and doing nothing, maybe just thinking about the concept of nothing for you!
Henna Malik touches such an important yet underrated topic in this amazing book. It is short and on-point book where she dives into the rich world of being still and how the concept of doing absolutely nothing is misconceptualized in the society. Opposite to how it is commonly understood, doing nothing requires such a high level of focus of conciousness and rewards the person with much more inspiration than when the mind is busy. As an engineer constantly inventing new technologies, I had all my ideas doing absolutely nothing, because this is the space the mind actually creates something. When you let the mind be still instead of making it busy with specific thoughts, magic appears. And Henna explains this state of art just perfectly. Suggested to everyone!
